Free Tablet Lifeline Understand the Benefit Before the Device.

Lifeline can lower the monthly cost of qualifying phone or internet service. It does not automatically give every eligible household a free tablet. Any tablet must come through a separate provider or device offer with its own price, inventory and terms.

FOLLOW THE BENEFIT
THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT

Lifeline supports service. A tablet is a separate offer.

01 / WHAT LIFELINE DOES

Start with the service benefit.

Lifeline is a federal program designed to make phone or internet service more affordable for qualifying households. The federal benefit reduces eligible monthly service costs.

SERVICE DISCOUNT ≠ GUARANTEED TABLET
02 / BENEFIT AMOUNTS
WHAT LIFELINE CAN REDUCE

How much does Lifeline cover?

The Lifeline benefit is measured against eligible monthly service. It is not a universal dollar amount that consumers can spend on any tablet they choose.

STANDARD BENEFIT
$9.25

Up to each month.

Qualifying consumers can receive up to $9.25 per month toward eligible phone, internet or bundled service.

QUALIFYING TRIBAL LANDS
$34.25

Enhanced monthly support.

Consumers living on qualifying Tribal lands may receive up to $34.25 per month in Lifeline support.

What these numbers do not mean

They are not tablet vouchers. A company may advertise its own device promotion alongside Lifeline service, but that device offer should be evaluated separately.

03 / ELIGIBILITY
TWO MAIN WAYS TO QUALIFY

Could your household qualify for Lifeline?

Eligibility can come through participation in certain government assistance programs or through household income.

ROUTE 01

Qualify through an assistance program.

Current qualifying programs include SNAP, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Federal Public Housing Assistance and Veterans Pension or Survivors Benefit. Qualifying Tribal programs can also establish eligibility.

ROUTE 02

Qualify through household income.

For 2026, Lifeline’s income route is generally available when household income is at or below 135% of the applicable Federal Poverty Guidelines.

1 PERSON $21,546
2 PEOPLE $29,214
3 PEOPLE $36,882
4 PEOPLE $44,550

Figures shown are for the 48 contiguous states, Washington, D.C. and participating territories. Alaska and Hawaii use different amounts.

CHILD OR DEPENDENT Their qualifying participation can matter too.

Lifeline eligibility can also be established through a qualifying child or dependent who participates in an eligible assistance program.

04 / HOUSEHOLD RULE

One Lifeline benefit per household.

Lifeline is limited to one benefit for a household, not one benefit for every person living at the same address.

A household generally means people who live together and share income and expenses. People at the same address can sometimes be separate households when they do not share finances.

05 / APPLICATION
SERVICE FIRST

How to apply for Lifeline and then check a tablet offer.

01
CHECK ELIGIBILITY

Identify the qualification route you can prove.

Use a current qualifying assistance program or the applicable income route. Do not choose a program simply because an advertisement mentions it.

02
COMPLETE LIFELINE QUALIFICATION

Apply through the legitimate Lifeline process.

Some applicants are verified automatically. Others may be asked for documents showing their identity, address, income or qualifying program participation.

03
FIND A COMPANY

Connect the approved benefit to participating service.

After Lifeline approval, choose a participating phone or internet company serving your location.

Search Lifeline Companies Near Me ↗
04
ASK ABOUT THE DEVICE

Treat the tablet as a separate offer.

Confirm whether the company currently has a tablet promotion and check the device price, model, condition, shipping, activation and service terms.

05
APPLY WITH THE RESPONSIBLE SOURCE

Complete device enrollment with the organization offering it.

TabletsGovFree.com provides independent information. We do not approve Lifeline applications, enroll customers in service or distribute tablets.

06 / DEVICE OFFER
AFTER YOU QUALIFY

Check the tablet, not just the word “free.”

Lifeline eligibility can be genuine while a particular tablet advertisement is outdated, unavailable or missing important costs.

01

Is there actually a tablet offer?

Lifeline participation alone does not prove that a particular company currently offers a device.

02

Is the device really free?

Confirm the device price separately from shipping, taxes, activation or monthly service costs.

03

Which model is available?

Promotional images should not be treated as guaranteed inventory. Check the actual model before ordering.

04

New or refurbished?

Verify the condition of the tablet and review any warranty or replacement terms.

05

What service is attached?

Understand whether the device depends on a specific Lifeline plan, activation or continued service.

06

Who receives your information?

Know the organization receiving your identity and eligibility information before submitting it.

07 / AFTER APPROVAL
LIFELINE DOES NOT END AT ENROLLMENT

Keep your benefit in good standing.

Approval is not the final step. Lifeline customers should continue meeting eligibility and program requirements while receiving the benefit.

01

Continue to qualify.

If your income or qualifying-program participation changes, your Lifeline eligibility can also change.

02

Respond to recertification when required.

Lifeline eligibility is reviewed regularly. If automatic verification is not possible, you may be asked to recertify your eligibility.

03

Follow service-use requirements.

Receiving a tablet or another device does not mean the associated Lifeline service requirements can simply be ignored afterward.

04

Keep only one household benefit.

A household generally cannot receive Lifeline through multiple companies at the same time. Keep the benefit connected to the service you actually intend to use.

2024
DO NOT MIX THE PROGRAMS

Lifeline is active. ACP ended.

Lifeline and the Affordable Connectivity Program were separate programs. ACP ended in 2024, while Lifeline continues as a federal phone and internet service benefit.

A current tablet advertisement should not describe ACP as an active federal device program.
